We would like to announce the start of the annual C-CDA and US Core value set update for those value sets that are in VSAC. This process manages the "core" US Realm value sets that are housed in VSAC.

This year's initiative is somewhat different as there are currently no outstanding C-CDA terminology related trackers (Jiras) that were not addressed through the C-CDA 3.0 Ballot process.

The foci for this year are as follows:

This will be managed within the current C-CDA and US Core HL7 Jira and consensus process with corresponding and linked trackers to be discussed in Structured Document Work Group and US Core Work Group as appropriate. For example, if C-CDA is the only standard affected by the proposed change, a US Core tracker need not be developed.

The annual C-CDA Value Set Update will include value sets used by templates defined in C-CDA and value sets used in US Core that are housed in VSAC. (Note: US Core value sets that are not in VSAC are out of scope for this value set update.)

This includes the value sets used in the following IGs:

The work will be discussed during the weekly SDWG calls on Thursday from 10 - 11am ET. The task force doing the analysis and updates also meets on every other Wednesday at 11am - 12pm ET (call-in information available on Confluence page).

C-CDA Value Set Update for 2024 - Structured Documents - Confluence (hl7.org) has been established for this aspect of the C-CDA project. SDWG is tentatively targeting the new value set expansion release package to be published on the NLM Value Set Authority Center in August 2024.

Terminology issues reported through JIRA for these specifications on or before May 31, 2024, will be considered for this update cycle. To submit an issue in JIRA, go to the Default tab, select the most appropriate specification, or the general specification = C-CDA Templates Clinical Notes (CDA),  Raised in Version = current, and Related Page(s) = Terminology as shown below. Then, select the Advanced tab as shown in the second image to tag the terminology issues by adding a Grouping of “Terminology” to the issue.
